Scientific Method Notes

QuestionAnswer
Controlled Experiment When only one thing in an experiment is varied.
Variable Anything that might take on different values in an experiment.
Independent Variable Also called the manipulated variable. The one that you change.
Dependent Variable Also called the responding variable. The one that responds to the change in an experiment.
Controlled Variable(s) What is kept constant in an experiment.
Hypothesis If -independent variable-, then -dependent variable- will -prediction of change-.
Laboratory Equipment Specific to the experiment; beakers, thermometers, containers, timers, etc.
Procedure An action (doing something); measuring, counting, using specific equipment, etc.
Y-Axis Where the Dependent variable goes on a simple data table.
X-Axis Where the Independent variable goes on a simple data table.
Multiline Graph Used for when there is more than one variable being tested.
