Scientific Method how to think like a scientist

Hypothesis a possible explanation for a set of observations or scientific questions
Variable something that changes
Controlled experiment an experiment where only one variable changes at a time
Manipulated variable (independent variable) the variable that is changed
Responding variable (dependent variable) the variable that changes as a result of the manipulated variable
Control part of the experiment that does not change
Constant all factors in an experiment that do not change
Data information gathered from observations
Quantitive data data that is counted or measured using numbers
Qualitive data data described in words
Scientific theory a well tested explanation of natural phenomenon supported by a large body of scientific evidence
Inference a logical interpretation based on prior knowledge, experience, or observations
