KTC-Midazolam

Midazolam's trade name Versed
Class Benzodiazapine, sedative
Description a short acting benzodazepine with CNS depressant, muscle relaxant and anterograde amnesic effects
Indications to induce sedation before cardioversion or intubation
Onset/Duration 1-3 minutes dose dependant; 2-6 hours dose dependant
Contraindications hypersensitivity to benzodiazapines, narrow angle glaucoma, shock, coma, acute alcohol intoxication, depressed vital signs, concomitant use of barbiturates, alcohol, narcotic, or other CNS depressants
Adverse Reactions hiccough, cough, oversedation, nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vission, hypotension, respiratory depression, fluctuations in VS's
Precautions COPD, CHF, Renal impairment, Elderly
Dosage/Route 1-2.5mg slow IV(over 2-3 minutes) may be repeated in small increments, not to exceed 0.1mg/kg
