Describe what happen when a plant cell is place in a saturated solution As the water potential in the plant cell is higher than the solution, water will leave the cell through osmosis. The cytoplasm of the plant cell will shrink away from the cell wall, hence it will become flaccid. The process is known as plasmolysis.
Describe what happen when an animal cell is place in a saturated solution As the water potential in the animal cell is higher than the solution, water will leave the cell through osmosis. The cell will shrinks and tiny spikes will be formed. The process is known as crenation.
Describe what happen when a plant cell is place in a dilute solution As the water potential in the plant cell is lower than the solution, water will enter the cell through osmosis. The pressure the water exerts on the cell wall is known as turgor pressure which cause the cell to be turgid.
Describe what happen when an animal cell is place in a dilute solution As the water potential in the animal cell is lower than the solution, water will enter the cell through osmosis. The cell will expand and soon burst.
