Enzymes for Bio

Catalyst lowers the activation energy of a reaction

How does the cell regulate enzyme activity? It only produces the enzyme when need; and some enzymes need allosteric activation before the enzyme will do its job; regulator protein at allosteric site inactivates enzyme
What else effects enzyme activity? Temperature (works best around 37 degrees C), pH, and enzyme and substrate concentration, other chemicals can inhibit enzymes
Competitive Inhibition competing for active site; is temporary
non-competetive inhibition something bonds to alosteric site and changes form of enzyme where substrates cant get in- temporary
irreverable Inhibition when one permanently bonds
