Mesoglea A jellylike layer located between the ectoderm and endoderm, composed of protein fibrils and sugars
Polyp A cylindrical body type which is sessile and has it's mouth facing upward
Medusa A free-swimming, umbrella-shaped body type which has it's mouth facing downward
Coral Reefs Vast limestone structures, where groups of coral live
Osculum The body opening, or mouth, of a sponge
Excurrent Pore The area where waste materials flow out of the sponge
Incurrent Pores Very small pores where water enters the sponge
Collar Cells The inner layer of cells which line the body cavity in a sponge
Spicules The crystalline support structures of the sponge
Gemmules Groups of amoebocytes and spicules that have become enclosed by a tough, protective outer covering
