Chapter 21.1 of Biology: God's Living Creation

Mollusks The largest group of water animals on earth
Foot A muscular appendage mollusks' use to move around
Visceral Hump A lump in a mollusk that contains the internal organs
Mantle A skinlke organ which covers the visceral hump and produces a calcium carbonate shell
Gastropods Univalves, such as the snail, slug, and whelk
Bivalves Mollusks such as clams, mussels, oysters, and scallops
Cephalopods Mollusks such as squids, octopi, cuttlefish, and chambered nautilus
Pearl Sheets of nacre built up around an irritant in an oyster
Adductor Muscles Muscles in a bivalve that connect the two halves of it's body
Mantle Cavity The open chamber where the gills are located
Incurrent Siphon A tube in a bivalve that takes water into the mantle cavity to the gills
Univalves Mollusks that have a single shell
Slugs Gastropods which look like snails without shells
Radula A rough, filelike organ that scrapes food and carries it into the digestive tract
