Classification Words

Stage One Vocabulary Card Sort

QuestionAnswer
Biodiversity All the different types of life. The greater the differences, the more stable the ecosystem.
Classification A universal system to communicate the scientific name of every organism. The order of the classification system is Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.
Dichotomus Key A tool that allows the user to determine the identity of items in the natural world, such as trees, wildflowers, mammals, etc.
Kingdom The most general category of classification. Living things are broken into 5 Kingdoms. They are plants, animals, fungi, monera, and protists.
Species A species is made up of like members of a group, that can mate with each other and produce fertile offspring.
Fertile Able to reproduce and have babies.
