Heredity and Genetics

QuestionAnswer
What is a phenotype? Words that describe a trait ex. black fur, short, blue eyes.
What is a genotype? Genes that make up a trait represented by letters. ex. TT, Tt, PP
What does homozygous mean? Purebred or truebreeding.
What does heterozygous mean? Hybrid or different.
What is a dominant gene? Gene that covers up or masks a weaker trait.
What is a recessive gene? Gene that is masked or covered up by a stronger trait.
What is heredity? Passing of traits from parent to offspring.
What is a gene? Segments of DNA that carry hereditary instructions and are passed from parent to offspring; located on chromosomes.
What is probability? Mathematical chance an event will occur.
