Litmus, Indole, Starch, MSA, Catalase

QuestionAnswer
Litmus Reduction Test allows for different metabolic end products of enzymatic activity of microorganisms. Litmus broth tube.
Starch Hydolysis Test Identifies organisms ability to hydrolyze starch with starch splitting enzymes. Iodine as reagant and starch plate
Indole Reduction Test Tryptophan is reduced with production of Indole. Uses SIM Agar deep tube and Kovac's Reagent
MSA Mannitol Salt Agar Mannitol Fermentating organisms and halophiles. Uses MSA plate that contains pheno red pH indicator
Catalase Test Hydrogen is degraded Apply 3% hydrogen peroxide and look for bubble formation, this means enzyme catalase is present.
