Digestive System

Digestion breaking down food
Pharynx muscular tubelike structure located at the back of the mouth that connects the mout with the rest of the digestive tract
Epiglottis small flap of cartilage in the back of the mouth that closes the entrances to the respiratory tract when depressed by food
Esophagus is a tube that foes form your mouth to your stomach
Peristalsis is the contraction of smooth muscles in the esophagus that help move food down your throat
Sphincter
Stomach a large muscular sac that chemically and mechanically digest food
Chyme pasty misture that results after food is partially digested in the stomach
Duodenum first part of the small intestine
Small Intestine tube that transports food molecules chemical absorption takes place
Pancreas organ that is both exocrine gland and an endocrine gland; secretes digestive fluids and the hormones insulin and glucagon
Liver large organ that lies above the stomach, secretes bile, and stored excess glucose in the form of glycogen
Gallbladder small sac in which bile is stored
Large Intestine oran, that removes water from the undigested materials that pass through it
Colon digestive organ, removes water from the undigested materials that pass through it
