--the glands-- --what they do--
Adrenal Gland play an important role in the body, producing numerous hormones that impact our development and growth, affect our ability to deal with stress, and help to regulate kidney function
Pineal Gland contributes the the alertness or conciousness of one's self and produces "melatonin" which regulates the sleep/wake patterns
Hypothalamus Gland controls our emotions and behaviors, controls critical metabolic activities, helping us maintain healthy fluid levels and properly metabolize fats and sugars
Pituitary Gland controls hormone functions such as our temperature, thyroid activity, growth during childhood, urine production, testosterone production in males and ovulation and estrogen production in females
Thyroid Gland plays an important role in regulating the body's metabolism and calcium balance
Parathyroid Gland produce parathyroid hormone, which plays a role in the regulation of calcium levels in the blood
Thymus Gland produce and process lymphocytes or T cells (in T cells 'T' stands for thymus derived). Lymphocytes are White Blood Cells
Pancreas Gland manufactures and secretes digestive enzymes such as amylase, which digests starch, it also produces lipase, which breaks down fats, and trypsin
Ovary Gland producing egg cells, the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone, which affect many of the female characteristics and reproductive functions
Testes Gland produce testosterone, which affect many of the male characteristics and sperm production
