Scanning Electron Microscope Microscope that uses an electron beam to study the surface architecture of a cell or toher specimen
Transmission Electron Micrscope Microscope that uses an electron beam to study the internal structure of thinly sectioned specimens
Cell Theory The theory that all living things are composed cell and taht all cells come from other cells
Plamsa/Cell Membrane Membrane that sets a cell off from its surrondings and acts as a selective barrier to the passage of ions and molecules into and out of cells
Ribosomes A cell structure consisting of RNA and protein organized ino two subnits and functioning as the site of protein synthesi in the cytoplasm
Cell Wall Protective layer external to the plasma membrane in plant cells,bacteria, fungi, and some protists
Pili A short projection on the surface of a prokaryotic cell that helps the prokaryote attach to other surfaces
Flagella A long cellular appendage specialized for locomation
Cilia A short cellular appendage specialized for locmotion formed from a core of nine outer doublet microtubles and two single microtubles covered by the cell's plasma membrane
Cytoplasm Everything inside a cell between the plasma membrane and the nucleus consists of a semifluid medium and organelle
Organelles A membrane enclosed structure with a specialized function within a cell
Cellular Metabolism The chemical activites of cells
Phospholipid A lipid made up of glycerol joined to two fatty acids and a phosphate group
Nucleus (1) An atoms central core,containing protons and neutrons (2) The genetic control center of a eukaryotic cell
Chromatin The complex of DNA and proteins that constitues eukaryotic chromosomes
Chromosomes A threadlike gene carrying structure found in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell and most visible during mitosis and meisosis
Nuclear Envelope A double membrane perforated with proes that encloses the nucleus aned seperates it from the rest fo the eukaryotic cell
