Definitions from Elarth's Genetics Unit

| Phenotype | An organism's physical appearance OR visible traits |
| Punnett Square | A chart showing the possible combination of alleles that can result from a genetic cross |
| Sex-linked trait | A trait carried on the X chromosome |
| Recessive | An allele that is masked ( hidden) when a dominant allele is present |
| Genotype | An organism's genetic make up, or allele combos TT or tt or Tt |
| Gene | Piece of DNA on a chromosome that codes for a specific trait. |
| Homozygous dominant | Having 2 identical alleles for a trait ( Both dominant- TT) |
| Homozygous recessive | Having 2 identical alleles for a trait-- both recessive ( tt) |
| Heterozygous | Having 2 different alleles for a trait ( Tt) |
| Dominant | An allele whose trait always shows up in the organism when it is there (You can see it) |
| Allele | Different forms of a gene |
| Genetics | The scientific study of heredity |
| Heredity | The passing of traits from parent to offspring |
