Chapter 9

QuestionAnswer
Classification The division of orginisims into groups,or classes, based on specific characteristics.
Taxonomy The science of decribing, naming, and classifying organisims.
Dichotomous Key An aid that is used to identfy organsms and that consists ofthe answers to a series of questions.
Archaebacteria A kingdom made up of bacteria that live in extreme enviornments.
Eubacteria A kingdom that contains all prokaryotes excepet archabacteria.
Protista A kingdom of mostly one-celled eukrotic organisims that are different from plants, animals, bacteria and fungi.
Fungi A kingdom made up of non-green eukrotic organisims that have no means of movement, reproduce when using spores, and get food by breaking down substances in their surroundings and obsorbing the nutrients.
Plantae A kingdom made up of complex, muticellular organisims that are usualy green, have cell walls made of celucose, can not move around, and use the suns energy tomake sugar by photosynthisis.
Animilia A kingdom made up of complex, multicellular organisims that lack cell walls, can usualy move around, and quickly respond to their enviornment.
