observation process of gathering information about events or processes in a careful, orderly way.
inference logical interpretation based on prior knowledge or experience
hypothesis testable scientific explanation for a set of observations
independent variable variable that is deliberately changed
dependent variable variable that is being measured; changes in response to the independent variable
