How does our population age affect healthcare costs? Aging pts require more care- raising costs.
How do lawsuits affect healthcare costs? Lawsuits against medical professionals cause them to purchase insurance- which drives up the cost of health care
How do Diagnostic Related Groups affect healthcare costs? DRGs are dollar amounts set by Medicare. Every disease has a DRG amount. If a patient is treated, Medicare will only pay the DRG amount, so if the facility can treat the pt cheaper, they make profit
How does combination of services affect healthcare costs? In short, one large facility is more cost effective than several small ones.
How do outpatient services affect healthcare costs? Since patients are not receiving 24 hr care, outpatient services save money.
How does mass purchasing affect healthcare costs? Buying in large quantities is usually cheaper- cutting down on cost.
How does early intervention affect healthcare costs? Discovering diseases early usually makes them easier and cheaper to treat compared to when the disease is "full blown"
How does home health care affect health care costs? If a patient stays at home, healthcare providers can come to them and provide care cheaper than if they were in a facility.
What is geriatric medicine? Medicine for the elderly.
How has geriatric care changed? The government has regulated geriatric care, requiring more training and certification for care givers.
