test notecards for photosynthesis test
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Leaf | A mass of ground tissue and vascular tissue covered by epidermis. |
| Cuticle | Coats the upper and lower epidermis. |
| Xylem and Phloem | Found in the veins of the leaf. |
| Veins | Extensions of vascular bundles that run from the tips of roots to the edges of leaves. |
| Mesophyll | Makes up the ground tissue, Cells are packed with chloroplasts. |
| Chloroplasts | The site of photosynthesis. |
| Palisade Layer | Lies beneath the upper epidermis. |
| Spongy Layer | Loosely packed, spherical cells, in between the palisade layer and the lower epidermis, also has many air spaces. |
| Stomata | Tiny holes in the epidermis that connect to the air spaces outside the leaf. |
| Opened Stomata | Transpiration occurs. |
| Transpiration | Water vapor diffuses out of the leaf. |
| Opening and Closing of Stomata | Water pressure changes. |
| Guard Cells take in water | The guard cells bend away from eachother. |
| Guard Cells loose water | The guard cells shorten and move closer together. |
| Chlorophyll A & B | Primary pigments, absord mostly blue and red, reflects green and yellow. |
| Carotenoids | Absorb all different wavelengths and more, allowing them to absorb more light than Chlorophyll A & B. |
