organic compound Primarily made of carbon atoms. Most living things are made of these and water.
functional group A cluster of atoms like hydroxyls or amines.
monomer Simple units that make up polymers.
polymer A long chain of monomers.
macromolecule Large polymers like carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
condensation reaction Joining two monomers and giving off a water molecule.
hydrolysis Breaking two monomers by adding water.
