Respiration Vocabulary (gas exchage and transport)

QuestionAnswer
Respiration The process in the lungs of exchanging gases
Diaphragm A large flat muscle that lies across the bottom of the chest cavity it contracts and moves down
Cellular Respiration The process in cells that releases the chemical enery stored in food.
Pharnyx It serves as a passage way for both air and food
Capillaries Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels where the exchange of nutrients and gases between the blood and the cells take place
Circulation The movement of blood throughout the body of an animal
Arteries Arteries are vessles that have thick muscular walls. (They are very elastic and expandable)
Platelets Fragment of cells in blood that plug leaks when an injury occurs
Alveoli Millions of tiny air sacs
Cillia Helps clean the delicate tissues that line the lungs clean
Plasma Its a yellow colored liquid that blood is made up off
Veins Thin walled blood vessels that get larger as they get closer to the heart,and which carry the oxygen-deeted blood.
