Heredity the passing of traits from parent to offspring
Allele the different forms of trait that a gene may have
Genetics the study of how traits are inherited through the interaction of alleles
Hybrid organisms that receive different genetic information for a trait from each parent
Purebred organisms that receive the same genetic information for a trait from each parent
Dominant a trait that covers over another form of that trait
Recessive a trait that is covered over by another form of that trait
Punnett Square a tool used to predict results in Mendelian genetics
Genotype genetic makeup
Phenotype the way an organism look and behaves as a result of its genotype
Homozygous an organism with two alleles that are the same
Heterozygous an organism with two alleles that are different
Incomplete Dominance happens when the offspring of two homozygous parents show an intemediate trait
Polygenic Inheritance occurs when a group of gene pairs act together to produce a trait
Sex-linked gene an allele inherited on a sex chromosome
