NSAIDS and ASA cautions interventions take with food to reduce GI effects, watch for GI bleeding, no ASA with children (except Kawasaki's) because of Reye's
opioids caution tolerance, dependence, addiction
seizure interventions monitor liver enzymes, CBC, renal studies, evaluate therapeutic response
sleep interventions infant/children/geriatric- give med that has short half-life
sleep SE hangover, lethargy
sleep caution barbituates have a narrow therapeutic index
anti-ulcer intervention do not give PPI's/H2 antagonist at same time as cytoprotective; give cytoprotective 1/2 before meals and the others after meals
antacids cautions acid rebound
antacids SE some contain calcium and magnesium which can cause constipation or diarrhea
Pepto bismol SE black tongue
Parkinson's SE and intervention hard on stomach- give with food
opioids SE CNS depression and reduced respiratory effect
