Definitions of the the digestive system parts

esophagus a tube that carries food to the stomach
epiglottis a flap that prevents food from going down the wrong place
enzyme a chemical that helps your digestive system change food into nutrients
stomach a large, sack-like organ that churns the food and bathes it in a very strong acid (gastric acid)
small intestine enzymes produced help in the breakdown of food. This is the organ in which most digestion takes place
large intestine water and electrolytes (chemicals like sodium) are removed from the food. The last organ of the digestive system which removes liquid wastes and stores solid wastes
nutrients a substance in food that the body uses for energy, for growth and repair, or form working well
saliva a substance in food that the body uses for energy, for growth and repair, or form working well
