adaptations the behaviors and physical characteristics that allow organisms to live successfully
niche the role of an organism in its habitat
competition the struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resource
predation one organism kills another for food
symbiosis a close relationship between two species that benefits at least ONE of the species
mimicry an organism resembles a dangerous or poisonous organism to avoid being eaten
false coloring coloring that tricks predators into thinking the organism is bigger than it is
protective covering hard or pointe covering that protects the organism from being attacked
warning coloring warns a predator that the organism is poisonous
camouflage to "blend in" to the organisms environment
predator organism that kills another organism for food
prey organism that is killed by another organism for food
mutualism a relationship in which BOTH species benefit
commensalism a relationship in which ONE species benefits and the other organism is NOT harmed
parasitism a relationship in which one organism lives ON or IN another organism and harms it
parasite the organism that benefits from living on or in another organism
host the organism that the parasite is living on or in that is harmed
