virus a small, nonliving particle that invades and then reproduces inside a living cell.

why do biologists condsider viruses to be non living? because viruses are not cells, viruses do not use energy to grow or to respond to their surroundings
what is the basic structure of a virus? an outer coat that protects the virus, and an inner core made of genetic material
how does a virus multiply? injects its genetic material into the host
how are viruses similar to living things? they both multiply
how are viruses different from living things? they are nonliving, don't need energy to grow, and need a host to survive
how are viruses similar to parasites? both use host to survive and take over the host cell
how are hidden viruses different from active viruses? hidden viruses take a while to activate and active viruses activate immediatly
how are viruses useful? they are used in gene therapy to treat cystic fibrosis
active viruses after entering the cell, this virus immediately activates
hidden viruses this virus stays in the viruses genetic material for a while and then suddenly activates
