Cricks Bone Formation Flash Cards

QuestionAnswer
What is the first cell type to form the new bone mesenchymal cell
Once the mesenchymal cells form the shape of the new bone, what do they turn into? chondroblasts
What do chondroblasts make cartilage
When the chondroblasts secrete cartilage and form the shape of the bone, what is it called? cartilage model
What then happens to the cartilage model? perichondrium forms around it
As chondroblasts secrete cartilage, they develop into what cell? chondrocyte (cartilage cells)
As chondrocytes age, some will burst, changing the pH of the area, triggering what? calcification
Some chondrocytes in the bone will die due to lack of nutrients, leaving what behind? gaps or cavities
What will the gaps form? lacunae- which will be the gaps that blood supply, nerve endings and other stuff will use to permeate the bone
At this point, a nutrient artery will form, causing the perichondrium to convert to what? bone forming osteoblasts
Once the osteoblasts begin forming true bone cells, the perichondrium will be called what?q the periosteum
What direction will the bone formation take place? from the outside- in (the periosteum is wrapped around the outside of the bone)
Capillaries develop in the middle of the bone, causing the formation of what? spongy bone
Some of the spongy bone near the end of the bone will be destroyed (in the shaft of the bone) and ___ will form there red bone marrow
The epiphyseal plate will continue to generate new cells until ___ 18-25 years of age
