| Population | a group of organisms of the same species that live in a specific area |
| Exponential Growth | means that as the population gets larger, it also grows at a faster rate (J-shaped growth curve) |
| Carrying Capacity | the number of organisms of one species that an enviroment can support indefinitely |
| Life-History Pattern | an organism's reproductive pattern |
| Density-Dependent Factors | include disease, competition, predators, parasites, and food. (Have an increasing effect as the population increases) |
| Density-Depenent Factors | include temperatures, storms, volcanos, drouhgt (affect populations no matter what density- usually abiotic factors) |
| Limiting Factor | factors that affect an organism's ability to survive in its enviroment |
| Demography | the study of a human population's size, density and distribution, movement bitrth and death rates |
| Birth Rate | The number of live births per 1000 populationin a given year |
| Death Rate | the number of deaths per 1000 population in a given year |
| Doubling Time | the time needed for a population to double in size |
| Age Stucture | refers to the proportions of the population that are different age levels |
