Parts of a Cell

QuestionAnswer
Cell Membrane A covering that holds the cell together and separates it from its surroundings.
Vacuoles Organelles that store food, water, or wastes.
Cytoplasm A jellylike substance that contains many chemicals to keep the cell functioning.
Mitochondria Organelles that release energy from food.
Nucleus The organelle that determines all of an animal cell’s activities and the production of new cells.
Chromosomes Threadlike structures that contain information about the characteristics of the animal.
Cell Wall A rigid layer that supports and protects the plant cells.
Chloroplasts Organelles that make food for the plant cell.
