| Exocrine glands | release secretions to apical surface via ducts, local ations |
| Endocrine glands | secrete products directly into bloodstream, longer-acting |
| Merocrine secretion | majority of exocrine glands, package products into secretory vesicles for release by exocytosis, includes salivary and sweat glands |
| Holocrine secretion | cells accumulate their product in cytosol and product is not released until cell rupture and death, includes sebaceous glands |
| Apocrine secretion | portion s of cytoplasm pinched off with product being secret, includes mammary glands |
| Sweat/sudoriferous glands | release products by exocytosis/merocrine secretion |
| Ceruminous glands | modified aprocrine glands that secrete cerumen which lubricates tympanic membrane |
| Sebaceous glands | face and scalp, produce sebum, holocrine secretion |
| Sebum | coats hair and skin to keep skin moist, caused mostly by testosterone |
