Body Cavities

Posterior body cavity posterior side of the body
Anterior body cavity anterior side of the body
Cranial cavity within the skull, protects the brain
Vertebral or Spinal cavity within the vertebral column, protects the spinal cord
cerebrospinal fluid bathes brain and spinal cord, keeps brain buoyant
Thoracic cavity within the thorax
Pleural cavities surround each lung
Mediastinum between the pleural cavities. heart, great blood vessels, trachea, esophagus
Pericardial cavity around the heart
Abdominopelvic cavity abdomen and pelvis
Abdominal cavity from the diaphragm to the bony pelvis
Pelvic cavity within the bony pelvis
Peritoneal cavity between visceral and parietal peritoneal membranes
