| Developmentally- appropriate practice (DAP) | Teaching that matches children's ages , individual needs, cultures, and development levels. |
| Family child care | Care provided in a private home for small group of children. |
| Head start | A federally- funded program supporting school readiness and comprehensive family services. |
| Laboratory school | A school connected to collage or university that serves children and prepares future educators |
| Licensing | Government regulation establishing minimum health , safety, staffing, and program standards. |
| Montessori education | A specific learning approach emphasizing hands on experience , independence, choice, and a prepared environment |
| Parent cooperative | A program in which families share responsibility for governance , volunteering , or program support. |
| School-aged child care | care and enrichment provided before or after school, during breaks or in the summer. |
| school readiness | The knowledge , skills, behaviors, and development that help children participate successfully in school. |
| Tution | Money paid for enrollment in an educational or child care program. |
