Definitions of healt

TermDefinition
WHO (World Health Organisation) definition of health Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being
Physical health How well the body functions physically (including fitness and absence of illness)
Mental health A state of wellbeing where a person can cope with stress and function emotionally
Social Health The ability to form relationships and interact effectively with others
Disease A problem with the functioning or structure of the body, usually with a known cause
Medical Disorder A problem with the normal functioning of the body or mind without an established cause.
Medical Sign Observable or measurable evidence of illness/disease i.e. rash, high temperature
Medical Symptom A subjective feeling experienced by the patient i.e. joint pain, headache
Medical Syndrome A cluster of medical signs and symptoms that tend to occur together i.e. irritable bowel syndrome
Medical Condition A general term for any state of ill health, injury or disorder
