What are the screening procedures performed on a patient in a preventative appointment? Oral cancer screening, periodontal screening, and recording teeth and restorations present and missing
After the screenings are done what does usualy happens next? Dental Hygienist will then perform an oral prophylaxis orcleaniigng for the patient and give them oral hygiene instructions and demonstrations specific to that patient's needs
What does cleaning the teeth remove? Plaque, calculus, and stain
What is plaque A sticky colorless film of bacteria and food particles that forms on teeth and can cuase cavities or gum disease
What is Calculus A hardened form of dental plaque
How is calculus formed? It develops when soft bacterial plaque is left on teeth and mineralizes over time through contact with saliva. Once hardened, it becomes strongly bonded to the enamel and cannot be removed by brushing or flossing alone.
