Introduction to Image Interpretation

| What is the difference between interpretation and diagnosis? | Interpretation explains what is seen on an image, while diagnosis identifies a disease through examination or analysis. |
| Who is legally responsible for making a dental diagnosis? | The dentist. |
| Why is image interpretation important? | Detects diseases, lesions, and conditions that may not be visible during a clinical examination. |
| When should dental images be interpreted? | Immediately after they are mounted, preferably at the beginning of the appointment while the patient is present. |
| What should be examined first when interpreting a complete mouth series (CMS)? | UR periapical images, beginning with tooth #1 and continuing across to the UL with tooth #16. Then drop to the LL with tooth #17 and continuing across to the LR ending with tooth #32. |
