Unit 7.6 Test Review

Genetics

QuestionAnswer
The receptor cells structures that detect changes around us. They are sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste.
sensory nerve signal from the receptor cells travel down these to the brain.
brain responsible for interpreting the signals it receives
symbols used to show signal in models of the body lightening bolt
The higher number of receptors in an area would result in more sensitivity, send more pain signals to the brain compared to an area that has low number of receptors.
genes are located in the chromosomes of an organism.
genes control the production of a protein
The code on the genes determines the shape of the protein,
The protein shape determine how the trait will function. For example whether they can taste PTC, see all colors, etc.
Changes to the genetic code located in the chromosomes results in the formation of non-functioning protein that results in a nerve that can't carry the signal properly to the brain.
Alleles are variations of a gene. They code the protein that have different shape and functions.
offspring get each of their chromosomes pairs by inheriting one chromosome from each parent
