TOOTH STRUCTURE

LABELS

TermDefinition
DENTIN supoorts the enamel, makes up the bulk of tooth structure , protects the inner pulp.
APEX The apex is the tip, end, or highest point of a structure; in dentistry, it specifically refers to the tip of a tooth’s root where nerves and blood vessels enter.
CEMTENTUM Cementum is a hard, bone-like tissue that covers the root of a tooth, helping anchor it to the surrounding bone by attaching to the periodontal ligament.
ROOT CANALS Root canals are the natural hollow spaces inside a tooth’s root that contain the pulp, including nerves and blood vessels.
CROWN The crown is the visible part of a tooth above the gum line, covered by enamel and used for biting and chewing.
ENAMEL Enamel is the hard, outermost layer of a tooth that covers the crown and protects it from damage and decay.
PULP Pulp is the soft inner tissue of a tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, responsible for nourishment and sensation.
NERVES AND BLOOD CELLS Nerves and blood vessels are the living components inside the tooth pulp that provide sensation and supply nutrients and oxygen to keep the tooth healthy.
CEMENTO-ENAMEL JUNCTION The cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) is the line where the enamel covering the crown meets the cementum covering the root of a tooth.
ROOT The root is the part of a tooth that lies below the gum line, anchoring it to the jawbone and housing the root canal with nerves and blood vessels.
APICAL FOREMAN The apical foramen is the small opening at the tip of a tooth’s root through which nerves and blood vessels enter and exit the pulp.
GINGIVA The gingiva, commonly called the gums, is the soft tissue that surrounds and protects the teeth and underlying bone.
PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT The periodontal ligament (PDL) is the fibrous connective tissue that attaches a tooth’s root to the surrounding alveolar bone, helping absorb shocks and maintain tooth stability.
ALVEOLAR PROCESS The alveolar process is the part of the jawbone that surrounds and supports the roots of the teeth, forming the sockets in which they are anchored.
