TermDefinition
Chordate An animal that has a notochord, a nerve cord, and throat pouches at some point in it’s life
Notochord A flexible rod that supports a coordinates back just below the nerve cord
Vertebra The bones that make up the backbone of an organism. In humans, one of the 26 bones that make up the back bone
Ectotherm An animal whose body temperature is determined by the temperature of its environment
Endotherm An animal whose body temperature is regulated by the internal heat, the animal produces.
List the three characteristics of coordinates/vertebrates a notochord, a nerve chord, and a pouch near the throat
Describe the difference between an ectotherm and an endotherm include animal example Endotherms (birds, mammals) have high energy needs, whereas ectotherms (reptiles, fish) have low metabolic rates and require less food.
