Selectively Permeable A property of cell membranes that allows some substances to pass through, while others cannot.
Diffusion The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Osmosis The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane.
Passive Transport the movement of materials though a cell membrane without using the cell’s energy.
Active Transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane using energy.
By what process do smalls molecules move into cells? Diffusion.
How is osmosis related to diffusion? Diffusion is the process by which small molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration; osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane.
What prevents cells from growing very large? If cells were very large, it would take much longer for molecules entering the cell and brings them into the cell, or carries them out in a similar way.
