Lesson 4
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chordate | an animal that has a notochord, a nerve cord, and a throat pouches at some point in its life |
| Notochord | a flexible chord that supports a chordate's back just below the nerve chord |
| Vertebra | an animal with a backbone |
| Ectotherm | an animal whose body temperature is determined by the temperature of its environment |
| Endotherm | an animal whose body temperature is regulated by the internal heat the animal produces |
| List the 3 characteristics of chordates/vertebrates | a notochord, nerve chord, and pouches in the throat area, and most likely a backbone |
| Describe the difference between an ectotherm and an endotherm (include animal example) | an ectotherm would need to live in a warmer climate because they cannot keep their bodies warm themselves. (lizard) An endotherm can live in any climate because they regulate their own body temperature. (Human) |
