Bio: Energy

TermDefinition
ATP Adenosine Tri-Phosphate. The high energy molecule that is used for energy in organisms.
ADP Adenosine Di-Phosphate. Lower energy molecule that is converted to ATP through Cellular Respiration.
calorie The amount of energy it takes to raise 1 milliliter of water 1 degree Celsius.
Calorie 1000 calories
Mitochondria The organelle in eukaryotic cells where Cellular respiration occurs. The powerhouse of the cell.
Chloroplasts The organelle in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs.
Cellular Respiration The process of turning ADP back into ATP. Generating energy for life.
Photosynthesis The process plants use to make sunlight into sugars.
Glycolysis When glucose is split in half, in preparation for cellular respiration.
