| Amino Acid | compound with an animo group on one end and a carboxyl group on the other end |
| Carbohydrate | compound made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxegyn atoms, type of nutrient that is the major source of energy for the body |
| Catalyst | substance that speeds up the rate of a chemical reaction |
| Cellulose | a complex carbohydrate that makes up plant cell walls and gives plants strength and structure |
| Chemical Reactions | process that changes, or transforms, one set of chemicals into another set of chemicals |
| DNA | genetic material taht organisms inherit from their parents |
| Disaccharide | a carbohydrate made of two simple sugars (monosaccharides) bonded together |
| Element | pure substance that consists entirely of one type of atom |
| Enzyme | a protein catalyst that speeds up the rate of specific biological reactions |
| Glucose | a simple sugar that cells use as their main source of energy |
| Glycerol & Fatty Acid | molecules that combine to form lipids |
| Lipid | macromolecule made from mostly carbon and hydrogen |
| Monomer | small chemical unit that makes up a polymer |
| Monosaccharide | a simple sugar molecules, the simplest form of carbohydrate, used for energy or to build larger carbohydrates |
| Nucleic Acid | macromolecules containing hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus |
| Nucleotide | subunit of which nucleic acids are composed; made up of a 5-carbon sugar, or a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base |
| Organic Compound | a carbon-based molecule found in living things, usually containing carbon & hydroen |
| Phospholipid | a molecule that makes up cell membranes |
| Polymer | molecules composed of many monomers; makes up a macromolecule |
| Polysaccharide | Tbe macro molecules formed by joining many monosaccharides together |

| Protein | macromolecule that contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, needed by the body for growth and repair |
