Lesson 4 green book
Chapter 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Selectively permeable | Some molecules can go in, but others can’t |
| Passive transport | without using energy (ATP), relying on the natural tendency of molecules to move from a high concentration to a low concentration |
| Diffusion | The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration |
| Osmosis | The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane |
| Active transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane using cellular energy |
| How materials move in and out of cells | Minerals live in and out of cells through the cell membrane |
| Know the different types of membrane transport, and how each works | Passive transport is where materials pass through the cell membrane without requiring cells, energy from high to low concentration while active transport is where the sound requires energy and transport proteins, move materials across the cell membrane |
| Explain the difference between facilitated diffusion and diffusion | Diffusion happens naturally, but facilitated diffusion is where the molecules are helped being spread around by the transport proteins |
