Lesson 4
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Selectively permeable | a property of cell membranes that allows some substances to pass through, what others cannot. |
| Passive transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy |
| Diffusion | The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration |
| Osmosis | the diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane |
| Active transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane, using cellular energy |
| Explain how materials move in and out of cells | Materials move in and out of a cell through the cell membrane |
| Know the different types of membrane transport and how each works | Active transport uses energy or passive transport happens automatically and does not use energy |
| Explain the difference between diffusion and facilitated diffusion | facilitated diffusion helps molecules move across while regular diffusion does not |
