Animal Cells
Chapter 4 Lesson 3
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell cycle | The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo. |
| Interphase | The stage of the cell cycle that takes place before cell division occurs |
| Replication | The process by which a cell makes a copy of the DNA in its nucleus |
| Mitosis | The stage of the cell cycle during which the cell’s nucleus divides into two new nuclei and one copy of the DNA is distributed into each daughter cell |
| Chromosomes | A doubled rod of condensed chromatin; contains DNA that carries genetic information |
| Cytokinesis | The final stage of the cell cycle, in which the cell’s cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the two new cells |
| What takes place during the three stages of the cell cycle? | In interphase, the DNA grows and replicates. |
| What takes place during the three stages of the cell cycle | In mitosis, four individual phases of the organelles divide. This is when the nucleus divides and the prophase begins as chromatins pair up in form an X. |
| What takes place during the three stages of the cell cycle | Then the chromosomes line up across the center of the cell. Next, the centromeres split, and the chromosomes split into individual chromatids. Then they stretch out and into new nuclear envelopes form.. |
| Draw and label the cell cycle | See notes. |
| Explain DNA replication and how it accounts for the way it copies itself. | It makes a second pair of centrioles. |
