Chapter 4
L3
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell cycle | The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo |
| Interphase | The stage of the cycle that takes place before cell division occurs |
| Replication | Process by which the cell makes a copy of the DNA in its nucleus |
| Mitosis | The stage of the cell cycle during which the cells nucleus divides into two new nuclear and one copy of the DNA is distributed into each daughter cell |
| Chromosomes | A double rod of condensed chromatin; contains DNA that carries genetic information |
| Cytokinesis | The final stage of the cell cycle, in which the cell cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the two new cells. |
| What is three stages of the cell cycle? | Interphase, growth and copying of DNA. Mitosis, contains 4 individual phases of the organelles dividing. Cytokinesis, the cell finally separates into 2 unconnected cells. |
| Draw and label the cell cycle? | See notes |
| Explain DNA replication and how it accounts for the way it copies itself? | Each new DNA molecule contains one original strand and one newly synthesized strand. |
