Selectively permeable A property of cell membranes that allows some substances to pass through, while others cannot.
Passive transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy.
Diffusion The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Osmosis The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane.
Active transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane using cellular energy.
Explain how materials move in and out of cells. Materials move in and out of the cells by active transport and passive transport.
Know the different types of membrane transport and how each works. Active transport uses energy to get molecules into the cell, while passes transport does not use any energy.
Explain the difference between facilitated diffusion and diffusion. The difference between facilitated diffusion and normal diffusion is that facilitated diffusion has help doing its job, but normal diffusion is independent.
