| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Selectively permeable | A property of cell membranes that allows some substances to pass through, while others cannot. |
| Passive transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy. |
| Diffusion | The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. |
| Osmosis | The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane. |
| Active transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane using cellular energy. |
| Explain how materials move in and out of cells. | Materials move in and out of the cells by active transport and passive transport. |
| Know the different types of membrane transport and how each works. | Active transport uses energy to get molecules into the cell, while passes transport does not use any energy. |
| Explain the difference between facilitated diffusion and diffusion. | The difference between facilitated diffusion and normal diffusion is that facilitated diffusion has help doing its job, but normal diffusion is independent. |
