Biomes

QuestionAnswer
Adaptation A characteristic that improves an individual's ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment.
Average Temperature The approximate mean temperatures that occur in different regions on Earth.
Aquatic A term that describes anything associated with a water environment.
Biome A group of ecosystems that have the same climate and dominant communities.
Climate The average weather conditions in an area over a very long period of time.
Conductivity The ability of materials (water, metals, wood etc.) to transfer heat or electricity to another object.
Dissolved Oxygen Oxygen that is dissolved in water, dissolved oxygen is important for fish and other aquatic animals to breathe.
Insolation The amount of incoming solar radiation received at a certain point on Earth.
Nitrates Compounds used for growth by plants and algae (based on nitrogen)
pH
Speciation The formation of new and distinct species in the course of evolution, often due to changes in the environment.
Terrestrial Relating to the Earth or to land.
Topography The arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area (with respect to elevation)
Tropic of Cancer A line of latitude about 23.5 degrees North of the equator which marks the most northerly latitude at which the sun appears directly overhead at noon.
Tropic of Capricorn A line of latitude about 23.5 degrees South of the equator which marks the most southerly latitude at which the sun appears directly overhead at noon.
