Resistant Ecosystems ecosystems that can survive despite environmental changes
Resilient Ecosystems ecosystems that can recover after a loss of population from environmental changes
Extinction global loss of a species

Habitat Fragmentation losing parts of a habitat until only patches are left
Poaching illegally capturing or killing an organism
ESA (Endangered Species Act) the major law in the US that protects endangered species and their habitats from harm by individuals and the government, + maintains a list of endangered species
CITES the international treaty that bans the international transport of body parts of endangered species
Captive Breeding Program breeding and raising animals in controlled conditions
Species Survival Plan program made to protect a certain species, with the goal of placing them back into their natural ecosystem
Biodiversity Hotspot region with a high number of endemic species that is losing biodiversity quickly
Endemic Species a species found in only one place in the world
Conservation Concession buying the rights to use a nation’s resources and then not using them
Wildlife Corridors connections between fragmented habitats
