TermDefinition
Cell membrane Controls what substances come into and out of the of a cell.
Nucleus The cells control center directing all of the cells activities.
Organelle Carry out specific functions in the cell
Mitochondria Are known as the “power houses” of the cell because they convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out it’s functions.
Cytoplasm A gel like fluid that moves structures throughout the cell.
Ribosomes Function as factories to produce proteins
Endoplasmic reticulum Passageways carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another.
Golgi apparatus Bodies receives proteins, and other newly formed and materials from the Endo plasmic, reticulum, package them, and distribute them to other parts of the cell.
Vacuole Exactly like organelle that stores, water, food, and other materials
Lysosome Are small, round structures containing chemicals that break down certain materials in the cells.
Multicellular Organisms that are composed of many cells.
Unicellular Single-celled organisms.
Organ Is made of different kinds of tissues that function together.
Organ system A group of organs that function together.
Specialized Cells Specialized to perform specific functions.
Tissue A group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function.
List what is inside the nucleus Chromatin, Pores, Nuclear envelope, Nucleolus.
Describe the difference between animal and plant cell structures Cell wall is only in a plant cell and not an animal cell,
Where are ribosomes are made, and why they are so important Float in the cytoplasm function as factories to produce proteins.
Describe what the endoplasmic reticulum does for ribosomes Passageways carry proteins and other materials from one part the cell to another.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
