Chromosome a single complete strand of DNA wrapped around proteins to make it compact

Cancer a disease where some of the body's cells grow uncontrollably because they have mutations and don't respond to normal checkpoints in the cell cycle
Mutation any change to the nucleotide sequence of a DNA molecule
Cell Cycle the series of events a cell goes through to grow and divide into two identical daughter cells; includes mitosis
Proliferation (mitosis) an increase in the number of cells due to cell division
Benign tumor consist of cells that are dividing uncontrollably but the cells cannot spread to other areas of the body
Malignant tumor cells that grow uncontrollably and spread locally and/or to distant sites
Radiation a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors
Chemotherapy a cancer treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing
Asexual Reproduction a mode of reproduction in which a new offspring is produced by a single parent
